What shapes the atmosphere of a city? Is it the arrangement of buildings, the lighting, passers-by, weather conditions, the flow of traffic? What do we see when we walk down a street? What catches our eye, and what do we perhaps no longer even notice? “rausgehen” invites us to take a closer look at what is often pushed into the background of everyday life as we rush by: our own urban environment. It is the subject of this book project, which aims to capture Leipzig in the here and now through pictures alone. It jumps from street to street and district to district, similar to an aimless stroll that begins at one's own front door and ends in the evening in front of a lit-up bar. The drawings, which are based on sketches and photos taken on site as well as personal memories, are an attempt to find a concise visual counterpart for 17 locations in Leipzig: from bus stops to canal banks, laundromats, and shopping streets.
